Hi all, looking for inspiration to sort out a few issues on my car which is a Galaxy Mk1 1.9Tdi 2000 on a W. A few years ago I did connect my Rosstech lead with Vcds and sort an Airbag problem out but when I connect it now the light doesn't illuminate so the lead is not working. I think my problem is I only have around 5v showing at pin 16 on the plug and believe it should be battery volts.
Can anybody point me in a direction of the most likely cause of the problem. Thanks in advance Steve

Hello and  welcome5
Do you have other electrical problems? check fuse 19 for starters.

Hi thanks for your help, only other real electrical problem I have is the central locking does not work from the remote and when key programming has been tried the red led in the drivers door does not flash fast in the sequence so the key cannot be programmed.

I have just checked and tested fuse 19, I have 12volts at the fuse and it is ok and when I tested today only just under a volt at pin 16 on the OBD socket. Any other clues would be greatly appreciated.

Just a thought would I be able to run a fused supply to pin 16 just for the purpose of the diagnostics ?

Humm, 16 is Battery+ so yes it should be at 12V. The question is whats dragging it down, I wouldn't common a 12V supply to the existing pin but you should be able to independently supply it without ill effect.

Wondering if you have a problem with a splice joint under the passenger side carpet it's S32 on a mk 2 will check when at home.

On the MK1 it's called splice joint 230, this is basically a bunch of red and white joined together with a piece of tape around them.
Cars that have suffered from saturated carpets in the passenger footwell can get problems with this joint, some or all of the services on that fuse can be affected.
The link below shows the MK2

Today I checked further and found that fuse 19 does supply pin 16 but as you say something is causing the low voltage and it drops even further if you put the slightest load on it. So rather than chase that problem for now I cut the wire at the socket and picked up a live from an unused fuse position, fused it and connected it to pin 16. The Rosstech cable and Vcds the worked fine. I have cleared the codes which I had and now need to find the Logon adaption code which I have somewhere safe ! ! then I can have a little play with some settings.

I will look for this spliced joint as soon as I get the time.

Thanks again for your help, greatly appreciated.

Update, I stripped out the loom on the n/s from the front seat going forwards I found 3 spliced joints close to the seat, none of which were the ones I was looking for, when I got to the A pillar I came across red/yellow and red/white. Both of these were badly corroded. I soldered all 5 spliced joints. re taped the loom and all is good now.

Thanks again for the help and heads up on where to look.

Good work  [GJ]

clapping and jumping I know it's too late now but some pics of your MK1 would have been useful for the ref library.
