sunroof stuck in open mode

another problem I have had is that my sunroof isn't always closing. take today, I had it fully open but when I press the close button nothing happens. I found the other day that if I have it half way open and press the close button it carried on opening and then wouldn't close. seems to reset itself after a little while and then open and close normally. is this the switch or the motor or a relay?

Is it a factory fit sunroof? If so there are no relays, there is a controller built into the motor that controls operation. From the sound of it the switch is sticking...

Physically remove it from the housing and use a multimeter would be the preferred way. Since you say it fixes itself in time, you might also trying giving it a tap or wobbling the cap during operation.

Question though, WTF are you doing opening it at 3*c anyway! The clues in the name SUNroof

missus took our 3 springer spaniels to the woods so car needed LOTS of ventilation lmao.

Do you have a funny looking spanner type allen key in the tools that you dont know what its for.ts probally the manual closing spanner for the sun roof as lots of factory fitted ones supply this. Dont know if ford do though as I dont have a sunroofon mine but did on a previous car hyundia

dunno about the mk2 but on the mk1 underneath the cover where the switch is,is an allen key which you insert into a nut,this allows the manually closing of the sunroof if the electrics/motor fails.
if the roof starts to stick then you need to give all the runners a good clean and a regrease.
if the roof starts to twist when it closes STOP and then manually close it with the allen key and pulling on the slow side.
if this happens the only way to repair it is to take the roof lining out BIG BIG JOB.

Yeah its the same on the Mk2, allen under the cover. Given you need a flatblade to prise the interior light out and then a Philips screwdriver to remove said cover it does beg the question of much use it is in a true "emergency" when its pissing it down lol

mark,i think its more as a wallet emptying exercise,I:E you have to take it to a garage to get the roof shut.

fellas. found it today so at least I can shut it if it pours down but worked fine today

as your a tad concerned with it,it may be beneficial to give the runners a good clean and re-grease using silicone spray/grease.
