VAG Tacho and keys

Just received a VAG Tacho lead this morning and notice on the user screen that "program key" as a function.

Will this program a Siemens key?

For the immobiliser? Nope - VW's have the immobiliser built into the instrument cluster where Ford have a separate controller hence the option to programme. The ford cluster will allow you to programme it but its pointless as it's not physically connected lol. You'll need the ford tool for that but its not cheap and there are no 3rd party apps about that I'm aware of ;(

yeah fords program does seem to be a very closed entity,i had a senior diagnostic technician work on my car(gal)a few years back and he ran about 4 different diag tools,he did have a fords 1 and was going to try and reprogram my spare key,but DID warn me that once he had started there was no going back and if it didnt work i was fubared and that meant a visit to fords.he said whenever he done this at ford garages he was also conected to there isp.
