Hi.

I thought my mirrors were heated but they don't seem to be.  They don't demist even with heated rear or front screen on.

It's a 2005 Galaxy Ghia 130 Tdi.  If they should be heated, any suggestions where to look for a fault please?

Check connections on rear of glass for +12v and earth when heated rear screen is on.

As Chris says, the heated mirrors should work when the heated rear screen is switched on, I've just renewed my nearside mirror glass as it wasn't warming up, the glass itself was defective in my case.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

It's also not at all uncommon if people crack the glass to replace it with the non-heated version to save a few quid.

sounds feasible :-(

How do you remove the glass to check please?  I don't want to go levering it and busting it all up - I'm having enough bad luck thanks  :D

It is a levering exercise I'm afraid and the simple answer is damn carefully!

I use the motor to move the glass as far out as possible and then get my fingers down the gap between the glass and mirror. It's just clipped on at the end of the day but will crack easily if too much force is applied in one spot - also the cheaper replacement mirrors tend to be way more fragile!

If it helps, below is an image of the reverse of the mirror glass (my old one)- the electrical contacts are visible at the lower left and the glass/backing clips into the mounting in the mirror housing by four pairs of lugs you can see spread around the circumference of the circular cutout in the mirror glass plastic backing- click on the image to view at full size.

It is possible to get the glass out without breaking it- in the end I ended up removing this glass from the mirror twice and it still survived unbroken! (apart from the fact it didn't get warm!)

a tip for when putting it back in   ,   line it up and gently press on the area that is where the round fitting part is   as the glass there is more supported, don't press on the outer areas
