Using VCDS to exercise the turbo actuator

I've just seen this post (locked, a few threads down the page) and would be interested in doing this.
A year or so ago I did get a spell where the car would go into limp mode - this was when it was doing lots of short journeys and I put it down to the vanes getting a bit coked up. Once we stopped doing very short journeys and had a good long run the problem went away.
I have VCDS but slightly unsure of the instructions.
Is there a sequence of screen shots anywhere I can look at ? I'm not sure where I select basic settings. Do I select module 11 from the drivetrain tab on the front screen of VCDS ?

Any advice welcome, it seems like a good thing to do periodically.

I have to be fair it's a new one on me but I'm certainly looking forward to trying it! At the moment its text only but if anyone else gives it ago in the meantime please do screencap it and we'll include it in the RL post!

You need to go into 01-Engine, then look for the "Basic Settings" buttons and then tap in 11 from there.

OK, thanks

Will give it a go tomorrow if I get chance and will report back.

Do you know if you need the full version of VCDS/VAG-COM, or is it likely to be available via VCDS-Lite?

Measuring blocks can be accessed with VCDS lite but i'm sure you need a registered version to use output tests if you want to operate the turbo actuator.
I have not tried this method of freeing the vanes using VCDS but can't realistically see it being any different to starting and stopping the engine because when the engine is at rest (no vacuum pressure) the actuator spring is pushing the control arm to the low power position.
When the engine is started (high vacuum pressure) forces the arm against spring pressure to the high power position, using VCDS to do this is no different to what the car does in normal usage.

I can see it being useful to observe the actuator while under the control of VCDS to make sure the arm is moving it's full travel and returning under spring pressure.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Ahh, I only have the free VCDS-Lite

I'll have a look later but perhaps this test is only in the paid-for version ??

[attachimg=2]Looks like VCDS-Lite won't do it.

As soon as I click on Basic Settings a message pops up.

Not sure how much the registered version is but would be difficult to justify for the very occasional use it would get, given that fault codes can be read and cleared with the free version.

Think its about Ã,£100

Giving it a good blast in third helps do the same thing and puts a smile on your face

Actually it was just over Ã,£60 for mine or $99

One thing as you activate process buzzer on dash goes off with engine workshop on display . Goes off when you stop process
