Hello from a newbie :-) A quick question if you please.

Afternoon all.

I have just installed a Witter removable towbar to my 54 plate alhambra Stylance and i'm having difficulty coding the genuine VW wiring. Al the lights are working but i cannot make any of the codes stick within the coding section on here and there is no reference or guide on how to code the cluster to operate the tell-tale on the dashboard. I have attempted central electrics and park assist with the codes given but no confirmation was given and no change in the operation. I can live with the reversing sensors which i can switch off but i need the tell-tale to work for the MOT.

An assistance would be greatly appreciated :-)

I'm not sure if its an issue but the trailer i tested the electrics on has LED lights all round which obviously begs the question if the load is great enough for the system to sense the trailer. The buzzer sounded fine on my T4 when i last used it.

It may well have a loading issue with LED's, but the fact the codes aren't sticking isn't helpful. What is the current coding for the central  electrical module?

Re the parking sensors, did you run a cable to the PDC unit under the passenger seat? Even if the car came with the "trailer prep" pack as VW like to call it, it seams you still need to wire that one.

Thanks for the welcome  the wiring kit had an extension plug on it which the loom plugs into. The original reversing sensor plug has been pulled into the vehicle and another plug is now connected to the sensors if it helps. I would like to think vw supplied the correct kit with this in mind. Current coding is 00117 for parking aid which doesn't want to be changed. I will pop out and get the central electrics coding for you now.

Central electrics is currently coded 04097 with a workshop code of 00020

Humm interesting, I've not seen one with that coding as 04096 is nearly always the code they have. 04097 would indicate the remote is unlocking the doors individually?

Anyway, so what are you trying to code it to? By my reckoning you should be trying 04105.

If that fails to take then I'd code it 04104 as thats the known code.

The PDC system should be coded to 10117 - the first number changing from 0 to 1 to indicate the "hitch" is attached,

Doors all unlock together, not individually. Does it make any difference the vehicle is an Alhambra and not a Galaxy? I might have to give it a go when i get back from London in a day or two.

No the Galaxy uses the VAG controllers and all three models are coded the same.

Presumably recoding with these codes won't do any harm? The code i tried for the central electrics was 04008 to add the tow hitch, does that sound OK?

Hi Jimmy, normally VCDS tests it first (hence it won't "stick") but you still need to exercise caution as you can kill the controller with the wrong code!! 04008 isn't at all right, where did you get that from?

Your current coding is 04097, adding 8 to turn on the trailer hitch makes 04105.

I read it in the guide and thought I replaced the last two numbers with 08, obviously wrong now and a good job it didn't stick! I still have to try the proper code which I might try later tonight. Thanks for all your help ☺

4105 tried and successful but no tell-tale, 4104 tried and accepted but no tell-tale. I have left it at 4104 for the moment. Tried coding the Park Assist and no matter how many times i try it; no joy :-(

99% it will be the LED's - what you should find is if you now use the hazard warning lights the tail-tail will come on with them as you are double loading the circuit. If that works and the trailer lights are working then you no need add some load resistors on it.
