Hey all I'm slowly losing the will to live with this car now!! I love the car but at the minute it just seems to be one problem after another. Latest issue is as I was driving a short distance today I could smell a burning rubber smell through my air vents and when I stopped at the house there was smoke coming out from the engine. Couldn't see exactly where but it seemed like down below the erg valve somewhere hard to pinpoint due to the fumes. Stopped after a few mins of no power

If it's down on power and you can see smoke coming from the rear of the engine bay below the EGR valve then it could be a boost hose come off or split near the turbo, any oil from the failed hose (there's always a bit of oil in the intake pipes) finding it's way onto the hot turbo or exhaust would be being burned off hence the smoke- the rocker cover isn't leaking oil at the rear from when you took it off the other day is it?

Worst case scenario is that the turbo has failed and oil is making it's way past the seals into the exhaust and is being burned off, but the car would probably be billowing smoke out from behind if this was the case, which it hopefully isn't! Other than that the turbo oil feed/return pipes could be leaking oil which is ending up on the exhaust.

You need to get underneath really with the undertray removed (if fitted) to take a good look for oil leaks and damaged pipes etc in the turbo area.

Hey Paul the car drives absolutely as it should no power loss etc. I'm just worried incase something were to catch fire.

As said recheck cam cover for oil leaks, this seems to be a common problem when covers been removed.

Checked car from underneath today, tons of oil everywhere I've attached a few pics. Bit of a leak at the inter cooler pipe also at the front drivers side. What do yous think a new gasket and a good clean up? Thanks
Chris

Looking at your picture of the turbo area (the one without the driveshaft in it) the oil seems to be coming down from quite high up (as it's visible on the exhaust manifold), as I assume the leaking and smoke has only manifested itself since you took the rocker cover off I would be suspecting the rocker cover gasket not sealing properly.

As above, it seems to be coming down rather then from the turbo so unless it's being sprayed up then I'd be inclined to agree that its from the rocker cover. The oil around the intercooler is fairly normal tbh, its a by product from the CCV system pumping its shite back into the intake but it should be better sealed then that so you might have a slight boost leak around that pipe.

Cheers I hope I haven't broken the rocker cover and it's just a new gasket it needs. How should I clean the oil off? Get a steam clean done at a garage?

Fresh oil will clean off fairly easily, get some Gunk or another soluble degreaser brush on where you can reach then just splash some over the back of the engine.
A hose pipe will suffice if you don't have your own jet washer, try to avoid excess liquids in the alternator, cover it with a plastic bag.
