Hey guys my wife just had a minor encounter with a fence does anyone know if I need a new door lock assembly or can I get a door handle from somewhere and attach it back on?? Please see pic attached thanks, chris

Ouch!

You can replace just the handle, providing the surrounding panel isn't that badly damaged. With the door open, you'll find a star screw near the handle - remove that and then, normally, you'd slide the handle to the right to release it. Once removed you can swap the lock barrel over and refit.

To remove the lock barrel you need the key so when you buy your replacement make sure it either comes with a key or has had the barrel removed - you'll be busy with the drill if not and its not fun!

Great thanks for that info mark! I've read on eBay to check pin length before purchasing I take it these things can be slightly different? Regarding the door dent is there much work required to remove the door trim to try pop the dent out? Cheers, chris

Nope, there are full instructions in the RL. Alternatively, replacement doors are quite cheap these days and again it's fairly easy to swap one of those over providing you've had your mornings weetabix!!

Hey mark I've got the rest of the door lock/handle removed from the car. Can the barrel be removed from this part in the picture or does it look like I'm gonna need a new lock?

No you should be fine to remove that - from memory you need to remove the brass/gold coloured C clip (In the second photo, the bit between the spring and the paddle. You then put the key in the lock and turn it which allows it to slide out of the housing.

Careful when you remove the C clip there is a spring under which may fly out, make a note also how the spring is fitted, it will help when you reassemble.

Phew all back together again an functioning correctly :-) least I know I'll be able to change the barrel over to a new door handle.
