Airbag light stays on!!

Dear All.

I have a problem with my Mk2 Galaxy (03 plate TDI LX) as the Airbag light stays permanently on and as we all know is an MOT failure!!! I have had the codes downloaded by a friend at it states that the drivers side crash sensor airbag is open or short to plus. Furthermore, that both the drivers side and passenger side airbag igniter's state that the resistance is too high?

I have read through the forums who state it may be loose wire connections or damp/damaged sensors and tried to find on YouTube etc where these are located to no avail!

I would appreciate any help or links to help solve the issues as I fear one hell of a hefty bill if I have to take it to the local Ford dealers!!

I'm not that familiar with the system employed on the Mk2 Galaxy, but if the fault codes are pointing to high resistances/open circuits then connector terminal corrosion would be a good place to start. Just to clarify, are the fault codes present relating to the front passengers & drivers airbags (the ones in the dash and steering wheel) or the side airbags fitted in the drivers and front passenger seats? (I'm not sure if an '03 reg LX would have the seat airbags)

Ok first up is a note that the SRS system on the Galaxy is a latching trigger, ie once a fault is logged it will remain even if the physical fault is cleared.

Resistance too high is normally, as you say, poor contact within the connector but only if its the side airbags and not the dash ones. You'll find these under the front seats so put the seat as far forward as possible and then from the behind the seat, lift up the mini carpet and hunt for the yellow shrouded connector - one for each side. Lift up the cover and depress the tab to disconnect it - make and remake it a few times is usually all it takes.

The other code you have "drivers side crash sensor airbag is open or short to plus" makes no sense, can you clarify that one. It can be the crash sensor or the airbag but not both in one code - ideally, get your friend to give you the exact fault code numbers as that clears up the ambiguity.
