My wiper have started going half way up the screen and sticking. Any ideas please guys. Bob

That sounds suspiciously like a wiper linkage starting to sieze- have a look here.

Hi Bob just had same on my 03 Alhambra. Removed wiper linkage and found 1 spindle to be very tight. Unfortunately I sheared the housing off the end of the arm trying to remove the spindle  >:(

Found a complete new aftermarket linkage on ebay made by Febi Bilstein for Ã,£71 delivered. Was dubious but felt it was as good an option as a used unit and I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by the quality and once I'd changed the motor over fitment was perfect (often not the case with pattern parts).

Hope this helps

Definitely is a seized wiper linkage spindle .. as mine are at the moment (damn thing seized then the connecting rods 'popped' whilst on the A5 - 50 miles from home - then it rained on the way back!!). Anyway, have bought a replacement from the scrappy and will attempt the re-fit this Sunday .. Main problem will be freeing the wiper arms (but have bought a proper tool for this) .. Will post pics and let you know how I get on.

This is my first post so, hopefully, it's in the right place:)

Spent nigh on all day replacing the mechanism with one from the scrappy .. Cleaned the spindles first - glad I did as one was caked-up real bad .. Anyway, have problem resetting the wiper arms ( as we had to swap the motor over) .. Could we get them to synchronise? Can we hell !!    Have got the drivers side working properly but when we refit the passengers side they both clash ... Individually they work fine but when both on at same time ... No way!!!

Help me!!!! :(

Paul

I assume you followed the instructions in the FAQ's https://www.fordmpv.com/smf2/ford-galaxy-reference-library/galaxy-windscreen-wipers-not-working-slow-judder-strip-and-rebuild/

To drive it to the park position just plug in the wiring turn the wipers on and off and wait for it to settle.  Double check the mechanism has been put back together as described and in the photo's.  I recall reading of someone putting the linkage together wrong, so it ran but had similar problems.

Wiper arm installation/alignment as below:

Oh yes! It is certainly possible to reassemble the linkage rods incorrectly!  :-[

Are you sure the linkage from the scrappy is for a MK2
The arms on a MK2 park left (passenger side) over right (drivers side) on a MK1 it is reversed right over left.

The breakers said so AND it's a 3 hole fixing ... I suspect it's simply the motor and the arms needs synchronising (as per your earlier post) ... worst case scenario is refit the original linkage but with the new spindles from the scrapped one ... oh happy days (NOT!)  >:(

Ref. My last posting .. after taking the replacement mechanism (bought off a scrappy) I cleaned both spindles, one of which was semi-seized, and fitted it only to find that the arms would not sweep correctly ... After much cursing and adjusting the motor arm settings we decided to take it back out and fit the spindles into the original mechanism ... To cut a long story short this worked!!! I now have working wipers just in time as the weather is on the change.
Just to inform anyone with a mk2 2.8v6 Galaxy ... There are two types of mechanisms so make sure you order the right one .. They are both very similar (as I've found out) but the spindle arm was longer on the 'incorrect' one hence the sweep only did 75% on one arm (my son cut it to the same size and welded it and now everything works perfectly).

Moral of this story ... DON'T over tighten the nuts holding the arms onto the spindles as the thread will snap off, this leads to replacing the spindles and, as you can't buy them separately, you'll need to buy a mechanism in order to swap over the spindles ( please clean and lube these first of all) ... And be prepared for bruised knuckles!!

Btw ... Anyone want to buy a wiper mechanism with only one good spindle ... Works perfectly but not in my V6 Galaxy  :)

AND a big thank you for those diagrams showing the positioning of the linkage arms etc etc ... invaluable assistance!!
