Retrofitting an AUX/USB socket

Dunno if anyone's done this but our '09 Galaxy whilst well equipped didn't have this option, and my son likes to plug in his MP3 player on longer journeys. Has anyone tried this and can it just be done i.e. wire in, plug-in and play or will the ICE head unit throw a hissy fit?

If it's not been fitted as standard to the best of my knowledge the more recent Ford audio units should support an auxiliary socket, I've fitted one to an older C-Max which didn't have one as standard with no trouble, the only thing to look at is where the factory fitted models have the socket fitted and whether you need to change/ modify bits of trim to get a proper fit with it- on the C-Max, I had to either fit and modify a new glovebox liner (as in the C-Max the socket was fitted in the glovebox) or just modify the old liner to get a factory fit.

At least on the older vehicles (Mk2 Focus, Mk6 Fiesta, facelifted Mk3 Mondeo with the later type stereo) it was as simple as installing the socket and connector lead, I'd like to think it can still be tackled in the same way on the Mk3 Galaxy & S-Max, unless the connector lead is part of a factory fitted wiring loom. I can find the
socket (18C858) on the parts diagram easily enough but I'm struggling to recall/find the connector lead we used to use, assuming it can be tackled in the same way.

i find that rather strange that a titanium model does not have 1 fitted.im sure ive got an aux fitted in my gove box and mines an 08.

The USB socket is in the glove box on our 2011 MK3 Titanium

Hi,  I'll be doing this in a few days,  you need to replace the Bluetooth module for an upgraded Bluetooth / USB module, usb wiring loom plugs into that and then Pretty much plug and play..

Sorry I was talking twaddle, it's a Ghia not a Titanium (wasn't really too worried about trim level, more about general condition  ).
GA73, are you willing to share the price of the replacement module with us/me please, just so I know what I'm looking at?

Hi browser,  i bought the module used from eBay around Ã,£60.. The bezel and usb lead holder around Ã,£15 from ford parts uk and the usb lead from module a whopping Ã,£50! Yes fifty quid for a usb lead,  ford changed the module side so a standard lead won't quite fit although on later models a standard mini usb can be used which you could get for about a fiver..

Glovebox off last night and module out..will do a how to once all done

I really do need to learn to look at things differently, specifically in this case from the passenger side of the car! I'd looked in the glovebox from the drivers side, and on the left-hand side there is a removable blank which looked exactly the right size for mini-jack socket, didn't think of looking at the right-hand side where the already installed aux socket is nestling comfortably and waiting for me to plug things into it   
Depending upon availability of pennies in teh near future, I might swap the Bluetooth module so we can have a USB socket in there, I'll see how much I think I'll use it.
Off to go and fetch my dunces cap and sit in the corner now.............
