Windscreen washer adjusting

Another question but hopefully its not also a thicky one! How do I adjust the windscreen washers? On previous car's I have used a needle but these seem to be a slit rather then a hole so I can't do that? A mate said it looked like a golf and you just move the little stalk but that seems reluctant to move in any direction???

You can move the little stalk, but it can get gunged up so might take some wiggling to free it up.
