Hi everyone,

New member, first post, please be gentle.

I've just acquired a 13 plate S-Max TitaniumX with the Ford Individual Multimedia System (FIMS)/ Rear Seat Entertainment System (RSES).

The DVD player itself sits underneath the front passenger seat, which is ok but unfortunately the car the remote control handset is missing meaning that you have to assume the crash position to change DVDs. I had a couple of questions that I was hoping that someone could help me with.

(i) Does anyone know where I could get a replacement remote (barring going to a main dealer)? I have had a good scout around the web but I'm failing to turn anything up.

(ii) Failing that does anyone know who manufactures the DVD player in the S-Max. I was considering seeing if I could get a universal remote control to work but that would mean knowing the manufacturer. I've seen mention of 'visteon mb8000' but I can't be sure.

Thanks in advance for your help.

im assuming you have looked on ebay?maybe email some sellers of likewise cars etc,but to be truthful id expect them to sell you the complete unit rather then only the remote?

perhaps if you can try to gain access to the unit, maybe with your camera phone it may have id stamped on it,then at least you know what you will be searching for on the web.

This might be too late but if you unbolt the seat you get easy access to the dvd player, don't know about the remote but you can buy the earphones on amazon cheaper than the dealer.

Thanks for this Asher.

Actually, the dealer I bought the S-Max from was pretty good and ordered me another remote which I now have. Even with the new item its not clear what the part number is if I need to order a new one. I was going to scan the details on the box and upload them to this site in case it was useful to anyone in the future.

yep,any info is useful info. ;)

I got it for free because I pointed out that, what with the DVD player being under the passenger seat, it was pretty much unusable without the remote. It was an ex-showroom model so they were ok about getting me a new remote.

As promised, here is the front of the box that the entertainment system remote came in.
Hopefully there's some useful information on there for someone.

What did the remote look like.
I have not got the luxury of getting a free one.
Thanks

I have the same ford smax and the same problem. Can someone tell me which remote should i buy?.

If you've got the factory fitted DVD player then as above Ford part no. 1730650 would seem to be correct, as can be seen on this parts diagram (item 18C919)- good luck finding a secondhand one though, you'd probably have to go to a Ford dealer, though if this is to be believed it's not devastatingly expensive. You need to make sure it's the correct one though!
