How to locate thermostat in Sharan Mk1

Mine is a 1999 Sharan 1.8T.

How do I locate the thermostat of the vehicle?

Also, how many liter of engine oil is required to change the oil?

The 1.8t was fitted to many of the VAG cars - theoretically the thermostat will be in much the same location as others so take a read of this

Re the Oil, you'll need 4.5 litres of 5w40 Fully Synthetic

Hi Chris, do you have the key to this image please or can you tell me where i would be able to find it?

Thank you

It probably won't help you much unless you have a petrol engine - thats the 1.8 petrol fitted to the Alhambara and Sharan only (the Ford petrols used Ford engines except for the v6). Your profile suggests you have a 1.9 diesel mk1.

Not sure in VE engine but stay on PD lives just next to alternator.

Aha, yes,  indeed!

I managed to find the part i needed after trailing europarts website. Thank you

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for my car or can anyone tell me where i could find one?
I have opened the rad fan controller (it was mounted at the front of the battery on top of the cross member above the rad) by prizing it open and has 3 connectors and 4 relays inside and with the two connectors that go to the fans connected there is no fan running (the problem I'm trying to solve is the constant running of my fans) but when connecting the smaller of the two connectors one of the relays is activated and soare the fans turned on. managed to check continuity between the cables of the sensor in the radiator to the small connector which is triggering the fans and there is continuity between 2 of the cables of the small controller connector and the rad sensor connectors, plus one of the wires is a negative this leaves one wire that is un accounted for which i think may go back to the ecu but before peeling back the loom to look for shorts in the wiring would like to see where else this wire goes.

any links or downloads would be very helpful.

Thank you

Is there any sort of part number on the controller? Just wondering if the ford one uses the same controller, might be able to find the wiring diagram for those ones if they are the same.

Thanks Brian, i will get that tomorrow when I'm back with the car. also any diagram of the loom would also be handy so i can see where the last wire goes that i can't see. I'm thinking a burnt/corroded insulation on one of the wires but not sure where to start and don't want to go on a wild goose chase.

Thanks

Thanks but i have a 110bhp 81 kw. this is a different vehicle to mine. my control is a longer one with 3 connectors into it. possibly the same principle. possibly a faulty circuit board. not sure but a diagram would come in handy to narrow down a wiring issue.

Does this help any? This is from TIS

I can provide further info from there, but if you have a way to run TIS that might be easier.

Perfect. thank you. looks like it might be the wire back to the 1st thermo switch. will have a look again tomorrow once ve dealt with the air in the fuel issue!

Thanks yet again !!

You should also have a pm with the same thing as a pdf, sorry about the formatting there can't get it out of TIS in any other way at present.

Cheers Brian

I tried to reply to PM but your box is full.

Will check out the attachment later once the air in fuel problem is sorted

I've cleared them out now, there was only 5 there, so either the allowance is very low, or something else is going on there!
