hi there new here I went out to do my daily checks today and I had to top my coolant up as it was low I looked to the left don't know why but I found coolant sitting on the top of engine dips and that could this be a cracked filler cap or could it be more thanks for your time john

Where is the coolant exactly- on the rocker cover? Front or rear? I would say the expansion tank is a little too far away from the rocker cover/ engine block to be the culprit, unless the cooling system pressure has blasted it around the engine bay as it has escaped, in which case I'd expect it to be everywhere. Is there any escaped coolant anywhere else that you can see? Coolant hose joints, radiator etc?
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

there is a coolant hose right at the back of the engine todo with the egr. only place I can think of that is high enough
Toot-Toot! Beep-Beep!

Maybe auxiliary coolant pump or associated hoses.
