battery replaement

hi all I'm having a few small problems and are changing my battery as a 2nd drop test showed a problem the first didn't, anyway, i don't know which one i should be looking at, cold start turn over? has numbers!!!
i know it sounds thick but i just don't know.
so any help would be most helpful.
the battery drains over night to a point where it will not crank over.

The standard minimalist battery would be 72 amp/hours & 600 starting amps if you want more storage/power then you want 100 amp/hours and 800 CCA.
Double check battery dimensions before ordering online, your battery tray allows for a slightly larger than standard battery
Have a look online prices do vary.

None of the figures here match any what you gave me earlier, have i had the wrong battery on my car all along, and is this why I'm having trouble now?

I have found 1 on line which is 72 amp/hours, 720 cold cranking amp.
Would this one be ok?

do you have any preference i have the choice of a bosh s4 100 or an exide premium battery both have the same spec and almost the same price Ã,£2.00 different.

As said  you get what you pay for 72 Amp/hour is the minimum I have this on mine, Exide or Bosch their both good, your choice

ok I'm going to sound really dumb now but when you charge a battery and the holes as i call them are covered with the manufacturers labels are they maintenance free and don't need taking out? got to charge mine to keep it going as i forgot it's Easter and no deliverys till after!!!

yes i think so,if maintainable then there will be a plastic cover you remove so top ups of distilled water can be carried out.but im sure those with more knowledge will give you more info.

It should say on the battery if its maintenance free, tbh its rare these days to see passenger cars fitted with maintenance batteries sp of the labels are stuck over the holes I would say that's your clue

Actually not sure why I didn't pick up on this earlier, 1J0915105 is a VAG part number so a quick look up reveals you have a maintenance free battery You also have a battery not listed as fitting the Galaxy/Sharan its listed as being the Golf/Jetta and Bora battery

Just to make me more confused today, it don't take alot i have 4 boy's under 10yrs!!!!, my car started first time! was going to charge the battery yesterday but the heavens opened and i thought sod it, its been having a low cranking speed and then it goes flat, but what i noticed today is i never gave the plugs chance to warm i just turned the key, and away it went, when i let the plugs warm it seems an age for the light to go out even on a warm day then there is not alot of power in the battery to turn over.

So I'm going to change the battery as it seams to be the wrong one, and as i have changed the 109 relay, will check the plugs to make sure there not loose.
Is there a relay or something for the glow plugs that is making the battery flat, have i missed something? vag com (ing) as we speak.
I have read in the book that is in the little blue ford folder that came with the car that if the battery is flat that will cause the engine to behave strange till the engine recalculates it's self.

I drive for a few hundred yards then then the engine runs fine. even when it idles erratic a few revs sort out the erratic behaviour till you release then it comes back, after awhile it idles fine.

The glow plugs consume a large amount of power even after the light has gone out, change the battery then report back.

Ahh I think you have just unveiled another clue, the glow-plug light should go in under a second with the temperature as it is today (12*c) - even in temps down to about -2*c it should have gone out in about 2 seconds so if yours stays on longer then you possibly have a sensor gone making the engine think its a lot colder then it is but we'll come back to that - since you have the battery get it swapped over first.

hi sorry it's been awhile i broke a finger, left it under a lorry rear shutter door!!! anyway i've changed the battery and the glow plugs go out within a second or two, so i think problem solved for this one, also glow plugs seam to switch to all 000's will check later again today

well you would think not !! but for some reason when i pulled the door down i for some reason left 1 hand there!!!!!! I'll be honest it hurt abit it only caught 1 finger!! and it had to be the middle one, it has it's uses though!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! people think your showing them your finger but sometimes I'm not!!

Most of our shutters you need both hands to pull down if your lucky
