Hi just joined fordmpv.com. I will state the problem and hopefully someone can get back to me!!!!

I bought a 1.9 tdi galaxy ghia a while ago. The problem I have been having is:

sometimes it would not start and when it did it would only drive in first gear and reverse, no other possibilities. I ve done a bit of research (bare in mind I am not technically minded or a petrol head!!)

My research lead me to either or replace auto gearbox fluid and/or a replacement ENC/U
Engine management computer/unit).

Ironically today I took it to my mechanic to have fluid changed and fit replacement EMC/U, the galaxy started first time and drove perfectly changing gears on time and smoothly, it was brilliant, however i knew the problem would return, so i went ahead with having the EMU and gearbox fluid replaced.

My mechanic said the oil was a bit low and murky (not a nice red colour), so far so good. fitted replacement EMU and got hi electrician to re programme the it.

So job done, sorted I thought, however he did say it was jerky changing gear, at times it would not change gear only when doing a semi manual gear change using the +/- facility on gear lever.

So can someone tell me what can improve this situation as I am very disappoint and now think I should have left all well alone!!!

HELP!!

Cheers. Tony

When you say the ECU was replaced, do you mean the transmission control module (as opposed to the engine management ECU)? Are you able to test for any fault codes present?
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Hello Tony and welcome5

It may well be you have an engine related problem, by that I mean a boost issue or maybe MAF sensor.
If the engine power is restricted then the gear change will be affected.
