Central locking "beep"

Firstly, is it just me or is the search function naff? Came up with no results searching for Central locking :-/

Anyway, the locking is so quiet on the galaxy ('02 2.3 Zetec) that we are constantly checking to see if it's locked or not, how easy would it be to add a "beep" into the circuit like many cars so we know when it's locked and locked?

Cheers

Steve

ive just tried the search and  have got an error.is this what you got?
Due to high stress on the server, the search function has been automatically and temporarily disabled. Please try again in a short while.

I did manage to get the search function to work, didn't really find what I was after though, although a google search basically says if I take the door card off and identify the door lock wire I can put some kind of 12v buzzer / beeper in series with the wire? Just need to find a suitable buzzer :-/

I'm not sure but there may be a better easier way.
Marks done just about every conceivable Mod to his car if it can be done I'm sure he will tell you, he will be back in the next few days. :)

There is a much easier way, use VCDS to turn on the option :)

IIRC its in central electrical, adaptation, channel 6. Should be set to 0 to comply with UK law but setting it to a 1 will make the horn beep briefly on lock.

That is a very valid point and I seem to be in the habit of double checking myself every time... Your post has prompted me to do something about it!

You will need to take a constant live feed from the battery or ignition loom (constant meaning it is live even when the keys are not in the ignition)
You will also need to find a "Switched live" (meaning power is only supplied when the ignition is on)

Components required:
1 x Mini Siren - Maplin Code: KU65V @ Ã,£4.49
1 x 12 volt (Normally Closed) Relay & pre-wired holder- eBay item number: 121332727298 @ Ã,£3.49

Connect the "Switched Live" to the positive "Coil Actuation" poles of the relay.
Connect the negative from relay coil actuation pole to ground.
Connect the "Wing Indicator Live" to the "IN Feed" pole on the relay.
Connect the "OUT Feed" Pole of the relay to the positive wire of the Siren.
Connect the negative wire from the siren to ground.

You need to remove the inner wing guard to access the wing indicator cables, this is also where I shall be fixing the relay and siren. Ideal place outside the car, next to the drivers door and protected from the elements.

What is achieved? When you get out of the car and hit the lock button on your key remote, the indicators all flash and will also power the siren momentarily so you get a "CHIRP" - The same will apply when you unlock the car! But, as soon as you turn the ignition on, the relay will disconnect the siren from the indicator circuit!! Otherwise the siren would go off when in indicate to turn corners... If your one of those that never bothers indicating, you won't need the relay lol

This will be a really nice little mode for any Galaxy owner, I shall order the parts today for myself and make a video to post online.
Anyone who would like to drop me an email, I'll send you a link as soon as I'm done...

Sounds like an interesting project, and tbh, will sound better then the horn method.

One thing I think you need to consider though is the use of hazard lights when stationary! - Possibly an override switch?

Hi Mark,

Yes!! Totally overlooked... Now some people would care because of the rarity hazards are used... Some people (like myself) wouldn't like an overide/kill switch because that makes it a little cumbersome (try explaining all that to the wife! LOL)... So I would personally want to add an additional relay with a timer circuit... Basically, all the above would work for a single Chirp at lock/unlock... If the hazards run for more than five flashes (ie intentionally left on) then the second timed relay would shut down the siren/chirp circuit. I wouldn't want a bunch of relays etc all tapped together floating around under my wheel arch so I will be building mine onto a single board with fuse protection and all encased into a small waterproof project box...

I wonder if anyone would actually buy this mod ready made with installation instructions... I think around the Ã,£27.00 mark inc P&P... Anyone ??? PM me!

* There is a lot can be upgraded to this board! Headlights with 20 Seconds main beam after locking car (naturally only when it's dark)
* Automatic lights on (when passing through tunnels or simply because it's getting dark)

Any other suggestions welcomed? I feel a project coming on!

Wow, firstly thanks to mirez, time to break out the VCDS lead and see what I can sort out with the horn - this will be great thank you!
Helifx, for me that sounds a bit more of a project than I was hoping for, may try turning he horn 'beep' on for now and try your idea next time I have a toddler & wife day off!! Although I would certainly consider a kit as you suggest, I have always been a bit jealous of my mates auto head lights and wipers, so if they could easily be added to a board that would be cool too!

I'm no auto electrician by any stretch of the imagination, but would it not be simpler to use the locking circuit as the feed rather than the indicator circuit? That will remove the need for an additional timing circuit?

Auto headlights sound useful

Ahh I was close ;)

What did you think of it? It's not really to my taste but will do the job - alternatively, since it chirps the alarm's own horn and not the vehicles, you could replace the alarm horn with a siren (might be a weird sound when the alarm go's off though!

Although I've changed the setting it hasn't made any difference, will check settings again when I get the car back and test the horn, or do you know if you can do the horn in output tests.

A horn sounds in output tests but I've never checked if its the main horn or the alarms horn tbh...

Chrispb - I'm guessing you are using VCDS? I'm using VCDS and it wouldn't let me access channel 10 :-(

Well after spending 3 hours trying to get a beep I give up [HAHA]

What Iv'e found is if the adaption is changed to any of the other available options then the alarm horn doesn't sound at all not even in output tests and also gets a fault code 01134 alarm horn H12 no signal/communication,
