All set up to change the egr valve and the pollen filter, glutton for punishment, and couldnt really get started. I cant free the wiper srms. I have moved them to the upright position and turned the ignition off. Nuts have been removed and 3 in 1 and wd40 applied. I have pulled pushed tapped sideways and up but to no avail. Someone mentionned a puller available in
machine mart   http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/details/cht427-windscreen-wiper-arm-remover     but it looks a bit clumsy to fit in the limited space available.

Any tips how to get them off?  2006 Sharan.

Ahhh this old chestnut! Its a right pain when that happens eh? Wiggling them about will eventually free them, make sure you take the tension off wiper first though as that's enough to hold it in situ on its own - Ie, lift the blade away from the screen so its pointing outwards and then just work the base. You won't be able to rotate them as the shaft is a conical design with ribs so you need to rock it back and forth.

It's just a matter of push and pull, use the palm of one hand to push toward the screen on the hinged part of the arm then pull back using fingers of the other hand, as Mirez said use a rocking motion then they will come off without any puller [GL]

Oi ! You are on the wrong forum! Just might do that. Left both arms drenched in wd 40 so maybe might shift in the morning with a bit more pulling and tapping.  I am near Strood swiming pool ..where roughly are you?

Finally got the hump as it is ridiculous not to be able to remove a wiper arm. Found a specific puller in machine mart which although not a good fit ( Doesnt bear directly on head of spindle so turn spindle nut over..unscrew a bit to give room for movement and it will then bear on the nut Ã,£9.88) did the job. It still took considerable force with tapping on the puller till it gave. Spots of rusty corrosion on the splines would seem to have been the culprit. Reassembled with a bit of copper ease.

Thanks for offer, hope other side gives tomorrow, next step filter and valve.
