Hi All.
I'm no expert, but I have a gut feeling that all is not well down below decks!

Where exactly is it in the car and what pipe is it?
I own a MK1 1999 2.3 DOHC Ghia & 2003 1.9TDI Trend.

Aircon pipe broken just below aircon compressor (common failure point)

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Yep! I suppose a recharge wouldn't help then!

Would it be an idea to isolate the compressor by removing a fuse or would it make no difference? Is it likely to have been damaged as a result of the pipe fracture?

Cheers and have a good Sunday.

The aircon compressor shouldn't run without any gas in the system but if you want to make sure the easiest thing to do is just disconnect the 2 pin (I think) multiplug on the lead that comes out of the compressor.

The compressor shouldn't have been damaged by the pipe failure, however you might want to plug the broken pipe ends, otherwise the system is open to dirt and moisture ingress which can cause damage- i.e, compressor seizure or corrosion.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Thanks for that.

I have also discovered the dreaded red rust mist around the drive shaft so a message to Poland is on the cards...  ???

While your looking underneath check the rear engine mount (roll restrictor) for movement as this will put strain on the pipes and cause premature failure.
