Injector setting

Just a quick question, when fitting injectors what degree do you Rotate the unit injector rocker arm adjusting screw counterclockwise ?

225 degrees anticlockwise after winding in to the stop point.

Thxs but this is where it gets confusing as i read somewhere it was revised to 180 but cant find the info anymore

Both Haynes and TIS say 225
Backing off only 180 would mean a higher pressure on the cams, it may be the case that revised settings are for a new modified cam.
I would be very wary of changing the setting for an old camshaft.

Found the post on different forum now even more confused reads as follows :-

When working on the PD engine there is a lot of emphasis on the degree of winding back the adjustment nut on the injector, so this should be corrected. Interestingly, I have double checked my own info and the adjustment nut on injectors on the 115 PD are actually only backed off by 180o. The 225o is for the early Audi PD engines I work on, so just goes to show, there must be some influence on the amount of adjustment needed. The figure of 270o is the amount of tightening for the injector securing bolt after it's initial 12nm tightening, so that is probably where you've got that from.

Just looked on Elsawin and that quotes 180 for all Sharan PD's

There's a lot of chat about it on the web and seems there's no reason apart from it being easier to remember, what ever happened to specifics so as long as all injectors are set the same shouldn't be a problem

Having said that as it is a VW engine I think I would be inclined to follow there advice.

ps. for what reason are you needing to do this?

Over the past couple of years have had trouble with injector seals and injectors needing replaced, as i did not see any reason for these going twice started to question how good the garage was that i had been using.

Low and behold over the past few months have been having various problems including smoke and the smell of unburnt fuel pointing me to faulty injectors or seals, so managed to grab myself a early morning auction bargain from fleebay 4 injectors Ã,£51 and at the same time got a full set of seals for Ã,£35.

Stripped down the engine second hand injectors and new seals in place already to to set the degree or rotation up first thing in morning hence my question and wanting to make perfectly sure before i start her up.

Well got her all put back together went for a good run (60+ miles) and she ran sweeter and smother than ever before, just goes to show you some jobs are better off done by yourself.
