mk3 drivers door gaiter

 :(Hi has any one had the need to remove the gaiter between the door pillar and door on a mk3 galaxy(it's the oblong shaped one not the round gnarled castle nut shape)it's just that I have reason to think there may be some wires breaking down inside, and need check them out , I have tried pulling it straight out off the pillar but it doesn't want to move, also tried prising  with a screw driver but don't want to do any damage as not sure if it's just a push fit and corroded or there is some kind of technique to getting these out, any help would be appreciated thanks von.
