Pull and remove the clip holding the thermostatic T piece leave the pipes attached to it then carefully pull the T piece from the filter body, remove the other two pipes noting their position.

Now leaving the filter in the bracket feel down the back of the bracket, push in the plastic tab then pull up the filter it will slide off the bracket, then you can remove bracket from the old filter.

You risk breaking the filter bracket if you don't do this.

Refitting in reverse order but make sure O ring is in position before fitting T piece

Now you can save a lot of time and excessive engine cranking by refilling the new filter with clean fuel, this is particularly relevent on MK 1 vehicles as there is no electric in tank pump to prime the system.
MK2 vehicles turn the ignition on and off about ten times, this will fill the filter with fuel prior to cranking the engine.
