08 Galaxy Mk3 replacing rear lights

Hi,

I am a new owner of a used Mk3 Galaxy. The previous owner smashed one outer rear light and one inner part on the other side (it's a car from immediate family, so I did not insist on replacing them) but now I have a dilemma. I know for a fact that the rear light clusters are horrible when it comes to replacing the bulbs, and since there are 8 standalone tail bulbs, I will be replacing them a lot. So my question is, is there a simple way of replacing the rear light clusters with the 2010- LED model?

Is it just one to one replacement or is there some additional work that has to be done? If I'm correct, there are no main light fuses, just an electronic breaker, so here is one thing to consider. Also, if the LED lights have different resistance, that might cause some power supply problems. Has anyone else attempted this?

Hi bandit11

It may not help much, I recently replaced a nearside rear brake bulb on my mk3, it was fairly easy apart from having to have double jointed wrists to undo the wing-nut type bolts, there are 2 of them behind the rear seat-belts that run through inside the rear removable panels, not checked the offside one, but should be similar, it took me approx'  10 - 15 minutes max to change the bulb in the dark, it's a 2010 model with normal filament bulbs, when you remove the wing-nuts, the whole unit can be removed.

Obviously I was not asking for a guide on how to replace the bulbs. I've done my fare share of replacing them all around that Galaxy and my girlfriend's 2009 Fiesta. I am asking about replacing the whole rear light units.

Hi,

I was interested for the same information.

I have just bought an 06 car for a workhorse but would like to mess with it and this was one of the mods I was looking at.

Cheers

Hello and  welcome5

You may have to be patient for that sort of info on the MK3 as the mark is still new in forum terms

Thanks for the welcome :)

Anyway I am now following a topic on our local Slovak Ford Forum, where a Mondeo Mk4 owner decided to replace the light bulb rear lights from 2007 with 2010 LED version. The task looks pretty similar to the Galaxy light clusters (same type of change), so when I have some information, I'll share.

I was told some time ago that the two clusters are very different and its a lot of work to change them over - from wiring right down to basic fitment. Certainly would be a nice upgrade though so good luck :)
