Hi all,
Just wondering about the rear A/C unit(s).  Does anyone have any photos of the them? On what trim levels was it available? Could it be added to Trend/Zetec levels?

cheers.

As I understand it, the system uses the same compressor and condenser but with a second evaporator located in the rear.  The space is certainly there for the second unit (see the image library rear heater) so to add it you'd need to fit some T pieces to the front pipework, run the additional pipes to the boot and replace the rear heater unit. The biggest stumbling block would be the rear vents which are located above each rear seat - that would need the headlining to be replaced and the extra vents fitted (impossible with sunroof) you could then code the existing climate unit and away you go.

I believe it was an option on all trim levels, with additional controls in the headlining on anything other then "Ghia" spec where the digital climate controls the system.

If you were to retro fit it you would also lose the opening rear quarter window on the nearside- because of the air vent pipework passing up the 'D' pillar on the nearside rear from the blower box into the headlining, all the Galaxies with factory fit rear air con only had an offside opening rear quarter window, the nearside is fixed!
