hey guys. any ideas why all the electric windows would stop working? i went to open  window today and non would work.  >:( since my car has a built in foot spar and a dodgie heater i need at least one window to open to demist the windows lol.cheers guys

Start with the fuses then door wiring for starters

cheers chris. i had a quick look at the fuses and wiring today but couldnt see anything at fault. daft thing is they where working yesterday but last week the windows decided to all roll down when i tryed to put the drivers side down a little. think this was to do with the global opening/closing thing. is there a way to disable that? it only did that when i used the key last week to lock the car. >:(

I'm not sure if you can disable global opening/closing separately, you need to remove the outer door handle to replace the paddle kit

cheers chris. the door lock paddles where fooked on the car when i got it although the drivers side one worked but was botched. ive replaced the drivers side paddle recently so shouldnt be that causing the global locking issue. i even bought it from that guy lol.anyways i had a look at the windows today and the cable on the drivers side had overspooled again.daft thing is when i sorted it all the others worked :O it was like the drivers side was taking the power away from the rest. ford galaxy,s  have some weird faults.  ???

If its not the padles sticking then it's almost certainly one or more wires in the gaitors having shorted. You can only disable global opening/closing by recoding the CCM's EEPROM - it's not for the faint heated either!

cheers mirez. 8-) had a feeling it wouldnt be easy to disable.im guna change the central door lock unit in the drivers door when i get a spare hour.also guna feed fresh wire into the tail gate  8-)

and if the wire keeps over spooling,then you either going to need a new regulator or a repair kit,as you may be aware the plastic spool threads itself,and it will keep on happening.

cheers gregers. its the first time its jammed up in a while that ive  had to take the door card off. other times its just made a whiring noise but pressing the widow switch up and down a few times freed it. think i,ll just replace the whole thing.  8-)

hey guys. just a quick update. :) well i went to the breakers today and picked up a replacement driver side regulator but upon fitting it..... that one aint working either. ive got a feeling the global closing thing has something to do with it as when the drivers side window did decide to work again the passenger one did too.  >:( is there any way i can power up the window regulator up to test it? cheers guys  8-)

have you made sure the wires in the door gaitor are in good condition?

the ones in the drivers side appear to be ok but i cant disconnect the wiring from the door jamb to check for corrosion. the drivers side rear had a split in the chunky brown wire when i got it but taped it up. when i checked it yesterday the wire had broke more and the tape i put over it had split coz of the sharp wires. i know tapes no good but it was the only thing i had at the time laying around to insulate it. :D what ever it is causing it its effecting the others too because when the drivers side worked the passenger one did too. never tryed the rear one. pass side rears totally jammed.could the water in the passenger side effect anything? i rolled the passenger seat forward yesterday and had a look under the carpet and the must of been an inch of water in there.  :o i just dont know where to start with this one.  >:(

yes its a very common problem,your central locking/alarm module will no doubt be saturated this will cause problems with un/locking and alarming the car .
as for the wires i think it would be a pointless exercise trying to replace any motors/regulators UNTIL you have done a decent job of repairing any/all wires,check them all and then check them all again,as you certainly will not be the last person to say 'ive checked' and there all ok.
the wires are strangled at time of building and get worse as the car gets older,hence the problems you are experiencing.

cheers guys. i didnt think mine had the central locking module under the passenger seat as it was a mk1? ive felt under the passenger side seat and apart from a wiring loom routed to the rear of the car and and a bunch of earth wires there was no central locking box that i could see. :) as for the water coming in i had a quick look under the passenger wheel arch liner yesterday expecting to see it bunged up with crÃ,£p  but it was fine.the central locking does have its good weeks and bad......... meaning sometimes its ok as long as it aint been raining but if it has the drivers side lock wont lock but the rest will. >:( the global open/shut thing dont work either for some reason :D.just as a thought i removed the drivers side handle yesterday and operated the lock with a screw driver to see if it was something to do with lock for the windows not working but no joy. when i turned it with a screw driver it locked the car the first time but wouldnt unlock it and wouldnt lock it when i tryed the second time untill i wiggled the screwdriver a little.hopefully this week i,ll get a new pollen filter ordered up and get it fitted and try to mop the water up.  8-)  cheers for the help guys.  :)

Its only the real early Mk1's that had the CJB under the passenger seat - it was moved up to the right of the steering column from mid S-Reg on...

 Here's the diagrams for the front windows, I still think you may have a problem with your door lock switches/global opening/closing assuming the door wiring is OK wiring diagrams for front door windows

hey guys. just a quick update.  :) been fed up with no electric windows in the front i decided to modify the window regulator by removing the module from the motor and bypass it so insted of having a multiplug it only has two wires coming from the motor. the motor is now operated by two relays wired to each other that reverses the motors polarity when the switch is pressed. the relays are wired the following way.{relay1} 85 & 87 have a fused 12v permo live.30 is to one side of the motor.86 goes to window switch {up} 87a is earth {relay2} 85 & 87 have a 12v fused permo live. 30 is to the other wire to the motor. 86 goes to the window switch{down} 87a is earth. the relays operate the glass up or down when the switch is pressed either way as it sends a earth to the relays changing the polarity. this makes the motor operate the other way round. im currently using two rocker switches to work the motor as i dont have a aftermarket switch that will work as far as im aware the original switch wont work it as i planned.  8-)

Well done for working it out Dave but wouldn't it have been just as easy to change the motor. :)

It would of been easier if it was on another galaxy Chris lol. The loom in the doors of the car is totally screwed and I've give up trying to fix the damn thing lol.this seams to be working so far so good   8-)
