Wing mirror electrical connectors

I recently bought replacement basic wing mirrors ie, heated with indicator lamp but NOT with puddle lamp or power closing.  After removing the bits and pieces to gain access to the drivers side old mirror mount etc, I find that the replacement mirror had an 8 pin connector for the 6 wires whereas my car had a 12 pin connector for its 6 wires !

Does any one know of a simple way of making connections, preferably without cutting wires and resoldering ?

I recall them doing a similar thing with the Mk2, early mirrors were 6 pin plug's and the later were 12 IIRC. PITA!

There are only really three choices:
1) Return the ones you have and get the right ones
2) See if you can find a 8 pin socket and a 12 pin plug and make your own harness adaptor
3) Attempt to cobble the good and bad mirrors together using the loom from the old one as a start.

Thanks Mark, not very encouraging though.

I've tried looking on the 'net' for parts to make connector links, but to no avail.  Other than breakers, I don't know of any other source, any ideas ?

Hi did you ever get this resolved? I'm having the exact same problem; my Smax has 12 PIN connector block and the replacement mirror has a 8 PIN block. Struggling for a solution and the supplier is refusing a return
