Hi

I have a problem where sometimes the car when pulling up at lights or coming to a stop will sometimes almost cut out (revs flls to like 200) or will cut out completely.  I have cleaned the throttle body, cleaned the idle air control valve a few times (it also cuts out if I remove this when engine running) and cleaned the MAF sensor, checked all air intake pipes etc etc and nothing to be found amiss.

I always notice that this cutting out or low rev thing happens in particular when I have the blower/heater switched on either no 3 speed or no 4 speed.  It has not done it when fan has been on lower speeds eg 1 or 2.  It is very weird and it is as if the use of more power drawing is causing this...

BTW I have solved the age old problem of the drivers door light flashing quickly and not allowing the car to start.  I bought a brand new relay from FORD dealer and swaapped it out as per the wonderful instructions on here in the how to.  It seemed to make it better for a few days then it came back again.  Usually at the petrol station after I had just filled up and need to get off the forecourt with peeps behind waiting!  Anyway,  I took out every fuse and relay I could find and cleaned each on with WD40 and the fuse board and holes themselves.  I then checked all the fuse ratings inserted already and the fuse numbers and found 3 that where incorrect so replaced with correct amp ones etc.  The car has now started first time every time and has never let me down since!

Any help on the cut out / low rev problem would be appreciated though  ;D

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Thanks for the reply, I stripped the heatshield off the engine yesterday and went under the car and it did look like the right angled rubber breather pipe was corroded going onto the actual PCV itself so it may well be this is what the issue is :)  Only problem is that it is a nightmare to get any access to it with your hand either from above and in front of the engine block or from underneath.   How does the PCV come away from the block?  does it just pull out or does it need a twist anti-clockwise or something???

Also, I have see on youtube that a way to test if a breather pipe is actually leaking or cracked is to spray a can of butane near to it whilst the engine is running and if it is allowing air in the pipe the engine should rev higher as it sucks in the butane... is this safe seeing as butane ignites and its near a warm/hot engine!!???

Cheers guys!

Most PCV's just push into a rubber grommet so in theory it just pulls out but probably easier said than done with the limited space.
Reading the other members write up he managed to get the whole pipe out by removing a few coolant hoses and brackets.

I would be very wary spraying butane near a hot exhaust, I would think he actually meant easy start.

If you are going to remove the pipe to replace the rubber elbow you are welcome to do your own write up with photo's which can be added to the library.
