Hello,
My late 2003 130tdi zetec rear washer has stopped working. You can hear the pump, the passenger side floor is dry (so its not the usual loose pipe connector).
I can only assume that the pump is whirring but not pumping, although the front washer is fine.
How easy is the pump to change? Or is it a bumper off job?

Thanks in anticipation

Hi! Firstly I would fill the washer tank to the absolute brim and then operate it - that way you'll have a visual guide as to if its pumping or not. If the level doesn't change then I would probably look at disconnecting that foot-well joint and with a beaker under the pipe and trying again, this will disprove if you have a blocked rear jet. Whilst its not impossible for the pump to have failed its the most unlikely culprit as they generally just die rather then still sound.

If you do need to replace the pump then you can do it by removing the passenger wheel and then the splash guard as its in behind that - good luck!

Thanks Mirez,

And I thought the old site was quick!

Will try that sequence, Thanks again

No worries, as another thought I have seen the pipe come off the motor assembly within the tailgate but you normally get screen wash running out of the drains and pooling around the lock bar if that happens.

It can also come apart in the D pillar and run down inside the trim.  It will be damp inside the access panel on the nearside of the car from inside the bootspace if this happens.  There is a joint (similar to that in the passenger footwell) at about upper seatbelt upper mounting height.  The hose runs behind the ducting for the rear air-con (if fitted) and is a pain to get at to rejoin.  Mine did it the week after the passenger footwell was fixed.

I think the word is "DOH!"

hi i had this trouble it's just a thought but is the pipe split? mine was just out of view, replaced it from frauds for about Ã,£16. lost alot of skin on my hands and arms though very tight to get pipe in, if it is that watch the bulkhead grommet mine popped out easy but i lost the bloody thing, hope this helps

 :-[ Guess what?
Took side cover trim off passenger well, and connection HAD come off (again). Thought as carpet was dry should be ok, but underneath soaked.
Dried it all out, and secured connection with cable ties.
Feel a bit foolish not to have checked it first, but having had no severe frosts thought would be ok, goes to show  :-[ :-[
Thanks for helpful suggestions again.

They really are a crap design! I ended up gluing mine together so there is absolutely no chance of it coming apart again - the downside is that I'll have to cut it should I ever need to split the joint but I honestly can't see why I would ever need to do that!
