Hello and  [W4]

MK 1 is fuse 20
MK 2 is fuse 15

Is the high level (centre) light also not working?

Brake light switch is a common complaint

Also check for blown bulbs and faulty wiring in tailgate gaiter may also be a problem

I had that recently on my MK2 Alhambra and it was the brake light switch issue. On the Alhmabra you get an EPC warning light come up on the dash, luckily I took the switch out and freed the spring and it corrected the fault.

Just had the same with my mkII galaxy.EPC light came on no break lights. Mine was caused by broken wire in tailgate gator blowing a fuse.

Can anyone give any more details on which particular wire is at fault? I have had a problem on mine since towing a folding camper the other week, could it be a short in the folding camper wiring that caused the fuse to blow in the Alhambra?

Have you used this trailer on the car before with no problems and is the fuse still blowing without the trailer connected.

I bought another folding camper which I sold the day after and towed it for 4 hours without problems. This one is a different one and the eml came on within 10 minutes of towing it. All the lights work OK on the trailer but I'm wondering if the load is too great for the fuse.

How is the socket wired on the car?
1. Is it a factory fitted set up.
2. An after market towing relay
3. A DIY job with no relay

Its a genuine VW kit for the Sharan which plugs directly into the factory wiring with no relays. Some of the wiring is redundant as its a 13 pin setup and i do not have the additional relays etc for the additional electrics. Seems strange to me that the other trailer didn't cause any problems.
