Relay 109 is the primary power supply for the diesel engine's ECU, glow-plugs, immobiliser, injectors and various sensors. As such a faulty relay can prevent engine starting and is often accompanied by a flashing door LED, intermittent starting and general poor running. Unfortunately the relay lives in the 3rd level of the main fuse box so access to the relays requires removal of the drivers side lower trim panel:

A revised relay assembly was fitted from 2002 onwards. The earlier black colour relay is replaced by a grey one, you can see it in the last picture in the link below (Note, its installed upside down so reads as 601)
