hi all, just a quick one along with the many other faults lol , my front n/s headlight on dipped would not work, so I assumed the norm change bulb which I did but when I tried the new bulb it did not work :o  looked at the fuses and I saw the fuse had blown for that side changed it, tried it alas still no joy looked at fuse blown straight away  >:( then looked at bulb the bloody bugger had blown that as well so took the head light out and looked at the wiring loom connector looked ok ,, looked at where bulb sits in and smelt the usual burnt smell and saw this as a possible prob could any one confirm this for me many thanks ///// p.s rang ford and awaiting a new relay ???? if that is it but I don't think it is. I think that little ring is causing a short against the bulb does this look right again many many thanks

sorry all photo here

this the culprit I think

oh dear oh dear oh s***.. that ain't the problem this is and I taped it up and bang goes the fuse . WTF the last owner/s have done and who to fix this cause i am screwed at the min any help much appreciated [attach=1][attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

is that the correct colour wire that supposed to go into that plug/ now a hole LOL

Yes that is the correct colour.
I think you need to get another light switch and the plug from a breakers.
You may still have a problem in the light unit itself but you need to sort this part first
When you get the secondhand plug make sure you cut off a few inches at least of the cables to make joining to your loom easier.

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

yeah thanks that's what I thought cut one off leave loads of slack and re wire it again,,,, just could be the light switch itself maybe then causing the fault!!! will have to get one to try but weird it works normally IE dipped for the right side LOL, sidelights work fine (both sides), fog lights, rear fog lights. Maybe one of the gold connectors is bent and touching inside the light switch itself????? who knows will let u know soon enough LOL

Try disconnecting the multiplug from the back of the headlamp unit now see whether the fuse still blows.

Yup, disconnect the headlight and try again which will narrow the fault down. If that's no good then you'll have to get the multimeter out and check resistance accross all the terminals.

hi thanks for the advice,  Chris, mirez. No it does not blow when you unplug the light switch, but then it wouldn't until you turn the lights on,   but forget all that there must be a short in the live somewhere in the bulk head,,, so dodgy fix but used to work on old cars,, take the live wire from the light that works run a cable clamp on it and connect it to the same wire on the side that does not work and cut that wire so it does not put a live down it again and fingers cross I should have 2 lights !!! will let u no tomorrow that is what a friend has recommend to do otherwise ill kill other things as well removing all the dash out LOL ::)

"I didn't say unplug the light switch" I said unplug the headlight unit.

Also running two lamps from one circuit your asking for trouble and overheat the wiring on the good side, forget those sort of tricks we done in the old days, the wiring then was good enough to add on without causing a problem nowadays the wiring is just suitable for what it's intended for.
If you do decide to go ahead and do it anyway use a relay
