Morning all,
Bit of an embarrassing question. :-[

When topping up the power steering fluid on my galaxy do you, top up to the bottom of the hatched area on the dipstick or to the top of the hatched area.

Have checked the owners guide and its not very clear where he max level is.

Only checking as I have a squeal noise on turning steering wheel, Have read over the thread on the pulley but want to try and eradicate other possibilities first. Will also have the aux drive belt replaced as it looks a little cracked.

Hope you can help
James

Anywhere in the hatched area is OK but no higher than the top end when the fluid is hot.

Cheers Chris,
Looks like I need a top up then as I'm under the hatched area. My fluid is clear looking maybe a slight greeny twinge to it, any preference on what to use to top up with.

Same colour fluid as in my mk2. Ford man told me this colour is for cold climates. So I bought a litre of that colour. Don't know whether it will mix with the more usual red though. Wouldn't like to try it!!

ATF fluid used to be OK but now has it's own spec, best bet is to get the ford spec WSS-M2C204-A

For what small amount of money a litre of the correct spec Ford oil will cost. It has to be the only way to go.

Cheers for your help so far chaps.
However have hit a stumbling point. I don't have a Ford dealers near me so I rang VW, the guy in parts has refused to sell me steering fluid for my car as I told him it was going in a Galaxy. His point is that "he don't know if its the same stuff"
I have the green looking fluid in mine do any of you kind lot have a part/product number or even confirm that the fluid is likely to be compatible.
Thank you

Hi spikey
Just routed my litre container of said fluid out of the shed. It says:
1L
1 384 110
5U7J M2C204 AA
DP-PS
Hydraulic Fluid
Ford Specification: WSS-M2C204-A2

Hope this helps

Paul/Chris
Thanks for the help, just hope he now sells it to me when I go in there after work, we go on holiday tomorrow and I'd like it done
Chris scanned the car guess what popped up?.
Only the booster heater, was hoping after the grief on the last one this would be ok. Lol

I remember when I originally bought that fluid which was a while ago. I gave the parts desk all the vehicle details and the first litre of power steering fluid they supplied was red in colour. Luckily I noticed before I broke the seal on the cap. It was then that Mike (the parts man) said green was for cold climate.
In fact my container says VERFALL 04/2013
Would verfall mean use by by any chance?

Paul, its German and in that context it would mean expiry.
:)

Just got home from work, my wife went and picked up the fluid.
Was given some with a number of G 004 000 M2 is this a superceeded one to what you have advised or just wrong

Spikey.
That number I gave you was off a container which is at least 5 years old. So I would guess the number will have been superseded.

Is the colour the same with the greenish tinge?

The colour was the same, done some digging on the net and numerous threads have said its a superceeded number.
Have just topped up and whiney noise has gone just left with what I can only describe as a faint whistle so fingers crossed its all good
