Accelerating issues

I've had a Galaxy MK2 1.9TDi for around 6 weeks now, 53 reg with 97k on the clock.  Looks like the engine has been well serviced and looked after but I'm having odd issues.

When accelerating, pushing the pedal down hard should change down a gear then accelerate very quickly.  But I've noticed that now when you push down hard on the pedal, it doesn't change down just accelerates very slowly (as if you were pushing down very lightly).

Is this serious?  Should any repair be covered under warranty?

Thanks!

Does it appear to correct itself after an engine restart
