Hi, Ive just joined the forum.
I've got a problem with my automatic Ford Galaxy.
When I got home tired tonight I think I turned off the engine without putting the car into parking gear. The key wouldn't come out of the ignition and when I pulled it the fob came in two! I've put it back together but the key won't work now. The key will start the engine but then it loses power straight away. The key still works for the central locking. The car works with the spare key but this doesn't have central locking. How can I get my main key fixed please? Thanks

There is a small transponder in the key.  You have probably dropped it when the key came apart.

There is a picture here -->http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/uploads/monthly_12_2009/post-892-1259766627.jpg

Have a look round where the key came apart and see if you can find it.

that was quick, thanks! Bit dark now, but I've had a quick look and can't see anything. I don't think anything did fall out but will have another look in the morning. Is it the very small rectangular metal bit in the middle you mean?  Think I may just have knackered the key's programming or something?

fingers crossed you find it,as if not it will cost you a load of dosh at fords to get a new 1 programed to your car.

The metal bit is the end of the key, it's the black plastic bit on the left with "PATS Chip" written over it. (Passive Anti Theft System - well that's my guess)

Genius!! Thanks to both of you who replied to this damsel in distress. I managed to find it this morning. Would never have known to look for it without your help! Bit of a puzzle putting it back together, black bit sort of slotted down the side, but managed to do it and car now fully functioning! very happy, thanks again!  :)

Fantastic.  Another small fortune deprived from the dealers.  Well done.

quite a few members have glued the bloody thing in,to stop it from happening again.
