Front heated windscreen wiring?

Hi, just a quick question I have a VW Sharan 59 plate 1.9 tdi it has the front heated windscreen in it as you can see the very fine wire running thru it but it's not wired in is it possible to remove the wiring out of a Ford Galaxy 1.9 tdi and retrofit it into my Sharan but with a Sharan heated windscreen switch? I'm guessing the wiring would fit both models if factory fitted just different switch?

Ahh, this old chestnut. Iââ,¬â,,¢m not sure although I did spend a very long time sorting out my front windscreen on a Ford Focus, it turned out somebody had actually disabled it by way of programming!!! I just couldnââ,¬â,,¢t believe it. But it sounds here like it is more complex. Hopefully you can just get some wires and connect it all up with a switch??

:)
I drive a Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi which has 115bhp and an automatic gearbox.

I donââ,¬â,,¢t think the vw or seat came with heated screen working, seem to recall back in those days it was patented by Ford so only fords had it. You probably can retrofit it not sure on the switch though. My old one had the nav unit so switch gear was vag assume seat use same switches as the vw variant?

What would be involved with retrofit other than the hardware like switches, relays etc I donââ,¬â,,¢t know, coding a possibility I suppose. I would have a check to see if it has any wiring to screen first and then decide what to do

7M3 959 622 switch for vehicles with heated windscreen

Few of these on ebay - though not many

So its different to the Galaxy ones (corners are more rounded on the Galaxy like this)

I believe the first one above is what your after, and suggests that the Sharan did have a heated front screen. I find it odd that someone would fit the windscreen without having the rest of the required bits to make it work.

Its possible that something else is up with it and its had the switch removed to stop it blowing fuses by being switched on, though that won't completely stop it as it will still be on if you use the demist button on the climate control (assuming you have that of course and not the manual a/c).

Do you have the heated windscreen washers? They generally come with the heated screen as far as I know?

Its a bit more than just a switch on/off job, as they are on a timer controlled by the ecu. But hopefully you will find the majority of what you need is already there.

Agreed, given a heated screen is around Ã,£800 and a non version Ã,£200 it makes little sense to fit one to a vehicle that wasnt designed for it.

Also, yes both the Bamma and Sharan could be spaced with the screen right back from the launch. It was indeed still under Fords patent but was one of the things Ford bought to the table as part of the joint venture.

I would be checking behind the dash blank and also behind the A pillar trims as its likely the wiring is there. What spec is the car? On a 59 that would be right at the end of the run and only vag were still making the cars, they moved to a twin wiring system around 2008 so you either got one loom or the other - your spec should be called either an Elegance or a Reference, elegance being the loaded version.

Thanks for the replies 👍 when I removed the hands free from the car I removed the radio nd heating control panel and it doesn't have any wiring for the windscreen switch, I will check the washer jets and remove the trim from the A pillars and see if they are connected, (never thought of checking them) I do have vcds if I need to programme things within the ecu, I'm going back on Wednesday if I get time to get a few parts from the car (boost pipe, parking sensors, poss aux heater, and poss heated windscreen wiring) just hoping I can retrofit it and its not a major strip down job.

[attach=1] does have a switch on heater controls but just makes all the vents close and puts them to the windscreen

It also switches the front heated screen on (at least mine does, which is just as well as the A/C on mine needs fixing and doesn't work). That may be temp related, not sure but it certainly lights the switch up for the front screen.

Very interesting, on the Alhamb there is a separate switch for for front heated windscreen, situated in the little block of switches down the side of the centre console where the hazard lights and heated seat controls are. Itââ,¬â,,¢s just like the rear heated screen switch but does the front... nothing to do with the climate control module...

[attach=1] that sharan is a 2006 2.0 tdi sport has the same heating controls as mine but also has the separate heated windscreen switch just like the back screen that's what I'm wanting in mine if I'm able to get the wiring harness

Thatââ,¬â,,¢s exactly how my old galaxy with the nav was,had the seperate switch for screen heater.

There is a seperate switch, but as I said above, you can see when you switch it to demist, that switch lights up yellow as well to show the front screen heater is on (It may only do this at certain temperatures but it definitely does it). You can of course switch it on manually as well by the switch. Only difference on mine is the screen controls are both on the right hand side of the panel, with the parking sensors on the left where the above photo has one of the screen controls. But thats probabbly a Galaxy vs Sharan typical setup.

[attach=1] removed the trim from A pillar and couldn't see any wires front windscreen are they further down behind the dash?

Tis shows them as being a plug under the duct that feeds the quarter window vent. The end bit (at least on the Galaxy) will lift out with a hook under the end of it to lift it up first. Then there is a plastic duct under that. Once thats removed you should see the connector (its below the pillar trim you've already removed).

It also says to remove the headliner, The diagram of that bit, seems to show the ground cable is up above the mirror in the middle of the car.

Thanks for that Brian I did remove the A pillar trim and the vent just below and had a good look but couldn't see any wires that went to the windscreen I might remove the passenger side A pillar trim and have a look there too as well as the ground cable above the head liner and see if I can find any wires
