dashboard pop up 'box'

On my 2007 Galaxy, the pop up lid on the small 'box', used for storing my wives disabled pass, on top of the dashboard does not pop up when pressing the release button.
 
It has not stuck down as I can easily use a small screwdriver to get it up but it will drop down again if I let go of the lid. 

It seems that a 'spring' may have broken or similar but I would like to know how to remove the lid or the 'box' with a view to repair.  Any ideas?

I seem to recall there are a couple of screws in the bottom of it,I think you have to pop the rubber mat out to access.

Had a look today and there were 3no T20 Torx screws, so easy to remove them and the lid.

It soon became apparent that the springs were OK but where they were attached to the lid body, the plastic had ââ,¬Ëœsnappedââ,¬â,,¢ away.

As I needed to put the springs under tension again, I found some thin steel rod (about 6 inches long)  and drilled small holes in the lid body just big enough for the rod to pass through.

I then put a right angled bend about Ã,½ inch from the end, and pulled the rod back so that it locked against the plastic.

The other end of the rod needed an almost 180 degree bend at a point where the spring needed to be attached remembering that the spring has to be tensioned sufficiently to allow the lid to open fully.
I then repeated the operation for the other spring, and hey presto it works. (see attachments).
