Overtake / Accelerate Quickly The Car Starts To Loose Power

2005 Galaxy 1.9tdi 123k miles. This has been happening for a while but has started to get a lot worse the last couple of weeks, it's been suffering from a loss of power, as when I try to overtake or accelerate quickly the car starts to loose power as if its running out of diesel for a few seconds then picks up until desired speed is reached, happening in all gears, mainly when its warmed up, any ideas.

When the fault happens does it feel like the engine is misfiring or simply 'flat' and not responding to the throttle? If it's just not responding to throttle then there are several possible causes but common ones being sticking turbo vanes, see the below link (sticking turbo vanes can possibly be remedied without removing the turbo as described in the link but it depends how badly sooted up they are):

There's also a boost control solenoid (N75) that can give trouble:

Depending on how bad the fault is the engine management may have logged a fault code so it may be worth plugging the car in first to see if any codes have been stored to give you a starting point. I believe even a dodgy coolant temperature sensor can cause performance issues, as you say the fault occurs mainly when warm this could also be a possible cause.

Hi thanks for the advice, it does feel like a misfire, as if its struggling to pull the diesel through, someone has suggested possible split hose, but wouldn't know which one to look for, is there any diagrams showing the lay out.

I'd recommend if possible seeing if there are any fault codes stored before going too far. The injector wiring looms situated under the rocker cover can give trouble after extended mileages resulting in an intermittent misfire but it's only one possible cause meaning that a fault code check would be the best first step.

In general I'd think fuel starvation issues would be less likely to be intermittent in nature. There's a little more reading in the below thread where a member had a blocked fuel strainer in the lift pump in the fuel tank but the symptoms for that are likely to be present with the engine idling as well. If it's happening under load I'd be more suspicious of sticking turbo vanes.

Tricky one. It may just be that the engine is gummed up and needs an Italian tune up. Have you tried putting a bottle of Redex through the tank and giving it a blast? Failing that itââ,¬â,,¢s probably some sort of split hose, maybe check around the engine bay for anything that doesnââ,¬â,,¢t look right. Goodness knows why they use rubber hoses in this day and age, they always split and crack

Also maybe change the fuel filter
