Every garage/mechanic i have spiken to seems to think thisis fluid related but there is nothing wrong with the fluid or the cleanliness of the fluid. I am (was) a mechanic myself . I suspect there is some sort of sensor that wont let you engage reverse when the revs are too high because as soon as the revs drop slightly, hey presto.. reverse again! any ideas?

Have seen it written that reverse is the first gear to fail if the fluid level is low,so if you have checked the fluid level using the correct procedure and it's OK then you may have an internal fault.
Have you checked for any fault codes logged?

Morning fella's . I haven't checked for fault codes yet but thats the next step. I'll keep you informed :) and thanks for the replies..

What method are you using to fill the box? IIRC there is a specific way of doing it...

I know this is a old topic... but, my question is same...

im having same problem on my sharan, but without any fault code logged...
the last fluid change was some 3 or 4 years ago... (maybe this is a stupid question...but...) is possible that the level goes low without any leak?

Its possible for it to burn/evaporate to a degree, in that state it can cause problems particularly when its cold, as its too thick. Only way to know is to have a look really.
