I need to replace a broken mirror and wanted to paint the corroded mirror bases anyways

I know the mirror glass is removable however is the colour coded part of the mirror realistically removable too?

Yes it is as I painted the black part of mine, from memory the painted cap just clipped off? Once glass out the way you should be able to see how itââ,¬â,,¢s secured on.

Out of interest, how do you get the mirror out?
I'm a bit ham fisted so is there a cunning wheeze to do it
without tears and tantrums?

Thank you, I had a feeling that might be the case! I'll have a look on the weekend  :)

Also found this image so figured they must come apart somehow without breaking! good thing cause i cant find any gloss black ones for sale at a good price at the moment

The 4 bits around the corners of the circular mount should unclip - though be prepared some may break as you try and do so, its a case of moving the mirror around until you can see one (use the controls inside the car to do this first) and then use a thin long screwdriver to gently prise them apart so you can slip them off the bit that holds the mirror in place. Least thats how I've done it on other cars, and the photo looks the same.

When i had to replace a rear cover due to some careless idiot in Walthamstow they didn't seem to be available anywhere at a sensible price, I ended up buying another new mirror at about Ã,£15 instead, when that turned up the cover wasn't clipped to the mirror as it was in primer, So I just fitted the cover instead of anything more, So I can confirm you can reinstall them without having to take other bits off first, but suspect as said above to release the clips you'd need the glass out first.

Just checked now and they're Ã,£23.39 each with the usual discount for the primed cases  :(

Wonder if that's a special facebook only deal that you saw

Theres a cover on eBay, though can't see which side you needed. But more importantly the photos show the inside of the cover, so you can see how it is held in place
