Tdi timing belt mechanilcal tensioner conversion

As I broke my original backplate and only got the the one for mecanical tensioner and will be fitting a new timing belt kit I wondered how much work that would involve. It see the holes in the backplate match the screw holes in the block. Has anyone done this to the AYU?

So long as the holes are in the block it should just be a case of fitting the tensioner stud,which should be replaced when doing belt kit anyway. Some kits include it now.

Yes my thoughts exactly, but on some tdi pd's you need to drill holes depending on block. I have both kits and will atempt to install the one with mecanical tensioner, otherwise I have to trim the back plate because it is a pain to remove and didn't realise it's different and have it on now.... will post results.

Does anyone know a complete  kit  part no.  etc with the studs as i found 2 which have just one of the studs....

No I donââ,¬â,,¢t know a part number for kit but you can get studs on own cheap enough from local VW,Audi,Skoda or seat dealer. I assume the kits you have found include tensioner stud as thatââ,¬â,,¢s the main one? Itââ,¬â,,¢s the only one I replaced.
If I remember correct the problem with them is it steps down from M10 to M8 thatââ,¬â,,¢s where they can snap.

I found 2 kits that have the studs one by INA and one by SKF. However they both have the step down from M10 to M8. Will go to VW and Ford and look for a M10 stud. Would it go trough the hole in the tensioner?

The step down one is for tensioner M10 in to engine M8 through tensioner.

The other stud is for the guide roller,personally I wouldnââ,¬â,,¢t bother with that one as itââ,¬â,,¢s the tensioner ones that fail.

Just make sure when you put back together gently nip tensioner nut up turn engine by hand,confirm timing still lines up and tensioner pointer is correct then torque but correctly.
