Trim removal for bootlatch

Bonjour.

new member here.  Searched as much as i could for an answer so thought i'd start a new topic.  I've got that problem on my Smax where the bootlatch doesn't open reliably when unlocked.  Apparently it's a common fault so i bought a new bootlatch.  Seems really easy to install, which is great.  However the sticking point is I appear to need to take a whole of the boot door trim off in order to replace the latch.  Can anyone confirm that's what i need to do?  If so, is there a knack to removing the boot door trim?  I've included 2 pictures which hopefully say it all - two photos of the trim from inside the boot and outside!

are you really sure it needs a new latch?

reason i ask is,even these cars have wiring problems in the rear hatch,i did,and after doing the same as you by stripping everything off it turned out to be broken wires in the left hand side gaitor as you open the hatch,still a p.i,a to sort it,but once mended latch worked perfectly.

What's a "left hand side gaitor" and how did you sort it?

It is the rubber boot where wiring passes from car to tailgate,open tail gate and you will see them at to top by roof.

To repair any wires will need the gator pulling back to access wires and then soldering back together and insulating,maybe even need to cut and extend them using same gauge wire if the damage is bad enough to have to cut some out.

Thanks.  I guess it's all process of elimination anyway - i'll try the boot latch first and then see if that solves it.  Re removing Trim there's an article i've found on this page which describes how to do it.

getting absolutely nowhere removing the trim.  There's a screw inside the handle (can be seen in my pics in the OP) which i can get to but it just turns and turns and turns and appears to loosen nothing.  trying to prise the trim off but it's so difficult.  if i force it any more i'll snap it!  any advice anyone?  just can't seem to find exactly how to remove the trim.  there's a few articles on how to remove trim on this website but none have quite the same trim as me , so i'm sending out an SOS!
