my aircon don't work , car was standing for a few months before purchasing , only tried it this week .

panel under radio seems normal .

am i just setting it wrong , used to an old 1999 galaxy !

any help please ?

Which type do you have? The climate control with the digital display if its the same as the Galaxy just needs the temp setting and press auto, and it should get cold if you've set it that way.

The manual one should just be a case of setting the temp dial to the required setting like the mk1 did (light should come on).

Can you hear the compressor going? It may be that you have the usual leak from the dryer cap and no or not enough gas left in the system to work.

the old galaxy just had old manual dials

the sharan has an auto climate digital thing !

see picture

im not even sure of basic controls

With that panel unless econ is pressed and showing on the display the air con should work when temperature is set low.
Do you get any flashes of the digital display when first turning the car on? This indicates a fault if it does.
First place to start is have refrigerant checked as it could have just leaked from one of the usual suspects, receiver dryer cap or fractured pipe by compressor.

This covers the usual receiver dryer leak

The instructions from the handbook are below, so hopefully that will give you an idea what its supposed to do when working.
