Strange electrical gremlins

Hello all,
I went to carry on working on my Sharan today. The battery was flat so I jumped it with my battery trolley and it started fine. As soon as it ran, with the drivers door open, I noticed a relay clicking noise coming from the fusebox. The indicators were trying to flash as were the interior lights. I turned it off and the remote central locking wouldn't work either. I started it up again and tried the locking and it worked fine when the key was in the ignition.
This issue has really got me scratching my head.
Hopefully someone has experience with this problem and can point me in the right direction.
Cheers guys
James

Check the door wiring sounds like broken and shorting wires inside the rubber boot.

I shall check them, but I've dealt with that problem several times before on other Galaxys but never seen this strange problem.

Also check battery fusebox as this is another known area for faulty connections.

Strange but not unique unfortunately. My doner gal has exactly the same issue as part of a cycle. First of all the exact same issue as yours with the internal light, indicators and flashing briefly and the relay clicking. Then failure of indicators, wipers heated screens and central locking. Then normal function but key won't start and needs to be turned back and forth a few times to get he engine to start. Not a clue what's causing it, fixed all gaiter wires changed aux battery fuse box, checked fuses in dash and earths, plus no fault codes stored. Gave up in the end after dmf went kaput, but would love to know if you find something as it drove me daft. Good luck.
As you slide down the banister of life, may the splinters never face the wrong way.

If not door loom or battery box then I would say gem unit gone crazy

What is the gem unit? Is that the body control module?

Yeah GEM is a term for any electrical module (Generic Electrical Module).
BCM is the specific module being talked about.

Its frequently mis-used because of the way it appears in manufacturers literature so you can have lots of GEM modules on a car but only one BCM.

I was wondering whether the bcm could be at fault because I had similar faults in my mk1 galaxy due to a water leak which got to the bcm under the passenger seat. However there doesn't seem to be a bcm module under either of the front seats in the Sharan. And all the relay clicking is coming from the internal fusebox area.

Only parking sensor control box under passenger seat on mark 2.

Which mine doesn't have so that would explain no boxes!

Just a progress report. I've fixed the problem. It was a corroded and then broken wire located in front if the battery. Repaired it and problem solved!  :)

Battery fusebox then :)

Yes but not a connection issue, some how the thin wire on the 3 wire plug closest to the slam panel became corroded then broken. Easy fix thank god.
