Just wondering if anyone has removed a 1.9tdi engine out of an Audi A3 8p body shape or a golf of the same era?
Can it be pulled from the top easy enough with gearbox attached or can the lump be sepereated from box and pulled out on its own?

The official way is removal from beneath.  Obviously a ramp is used. There are holes in the front  and rear of the block for a factory tool to fit, this forms a perfect cradle which connects to an engine jack.  Without these factory tools you can either take it out from the top or remove the whole of the front end and drag it out.

I ended up lifting out the top with gearbox still on,just moved the engine and trans mount to give but more clearance. Came out fairly easy in the end, should be dropping back in this week.
