Hello!
The car is .: Galaxy WGR 2,3 2002
Maybe it's an electrical problem.

It started that the fan did not work. (But sometimes it could work)
Now it's problem with the defroster Fan, and the Wiper, most of the time.
If the windscreen wiper works, the fan also works, and if the fan does not work, the wiper will not work either
The coupe filter has been replaced.

What could be wrong?

Greetings!  [W4]

Which fan is not working? The cabin blower fan for the heaters/ air conditioning or the coolant radiator fan? If you've got a fault simultaneously affecting unrelated electrical systems then it does sound like a wiring fault, the main fuseboxes on these vehicles can be prone to failing which can cause strange electrical symptoms but that's only one possibility. Do you have an owners handbook? Might be worth seeing if both systems are powered from the same fuse- though some of that information is contained here. Also worth checking the battery junction box too as this can cause multiple system failure.
Always learning..... Often by mistakes!

Fuse 33 for aircon and wipers although it's not marked for wipers

With VCDS lite (full version) need a code clearing or want to scan for faults in the north kent area, PM me. All for a pint of Strongbow.

Thanks!
It's the cabin fan for the heaters, which does not work properly.
I think the fuse box beside the battery, is looked good, but I can see on it again.

Is it possible to measure the voltage in the fuse box inside the car?
For example fuse 33 (wipers) (= +12V when the "wiper switch" its on? or itÃ,´s the fuse on the earth side?)
and fuse 3 (It is not really clear which fuse, as the fan is use)
fuse 63 is to the Heated Front Screen. (= +12V when the wires in the front window is on?)

I have not checked which systems are having problems at the same time.
But the problem has grown over time - first the heater in the car, but now that the windscreen wiper is affected, it has become very annoying. (I think that AC is also affected at same time)
I can even see the electrical heater in the front window doesn't work, when the wiper doesn't work.

No problem to start and run the car.

Now I have more information.

The fuses number 11 and 19-28 (Fuse box1), have no voltage.

Result from measurement .:
Fuse 57 - 0V - Exterior Left light
Fuse 58 - 0V - Headlight Levelling, DRL (daytime running lights)
Fuse 59 - 12V - Exterior Left Lights
Fuse 60 - 12V - Exterior Right Lights
Fuse 61 - 0V - Exterior Lighting, Instrument Cluster.
Fuse 62 - 0V - Exterior Lighting, DRL (daytime running lights)
(Maybe Fuse ?? have voltage, if the full beam headlights is set on)

It's no problem with
- parking lights,
- dipped beam,
- full beam
- and DRL (daytime running lights)

Where are fuses number 63-65? (63 - 50A is to the Heated Front Window - as described.)
(Or is it the same as Rear Window fuse 51 - 20A)

Now I have more information

First, the pollen filter was replaced with a new one.
Everything began to work - for a while...

The new pollen filter was removed and refitted.
Everything began to work again - for a while...

What is the sensor that senses the filter?
(Has searched in Haynes, but does not know what the sensor is called)

What could it be for cables that is affected by the pollen filter change?

As far as I recall no sensors sense the filter and I also don't remember any wiring that is disturbed by changing the filter unless you had the wiper linkage out??
Only thing I can think is the wiring to wiper motor Or motor itself are at fault.

Did you take linkage out to do pollen filter,if so try disconnecting wiper motor see if blower works then.

Now I no longer believe it has to do with the pollen filter....

I have analysed the schema in HAYNES and have two new ideas. (is it easy to attach an image / schema here?)
- Ignition Switch. (but it seems to work)
- Relay R149 - Load reduction realy.

I would like to test that Relay (r149) - but do not know where I can find that in the Car.
R149 affects the same things that have ceased to work.

for example.
The pin 2 from the Ignition switch - (Black/Yellow cable) have 12V (and the realy 149 should turn on)
But the fuse 20 and fuse 24 (Wiper front / back) have no power and don't work.
If I add 12V at the fuse, the Wiper begin to work as usual.

Is R149 on the HAYNES schema = Relay 149?

Here you go this will point you in right direction, simple test with meter to see if ignition switch supplies 12v to coil and if it does do you get feed out. If either are faulty should be a fairly straightforward and cheap fix.
If relay is at fault best off going VW as they will have more chance of keeping in stock. Plus relay should have vw part number stamped on it

No the relay marked 149 is not the load reduction relay this relay sits in slot R16 if you have a owners hand book there is a layout of the relays, the load reduction relay is called (consumer cut off) in the handbook and is in slot 26 and marked 100.

Great, thanks!
It was some problem with the Relay "100".
Now this works again.

(There is another problem with the car, which I put in a new thread)
