Dear All

RE: Ford Galaxy 2004 Tyre 215 vs 205

Please can you help? I need to know if I can put 205/55/R16 tyres instead of 215/55/R16 on my Ford Galaxy 2004. Recenlty  I ordered new Pirelli tyres on line. As the tyres have arrived today, I noticed the mistake that  instead of  215/55/R16,  I ordered 205/55/R16 . I am not sure if I can use them or return them and ask for the right size? I will appreciate your feedback.

Kind regards

Dennis

Which wheels do you have fitted to your Galaxy- i.e, factory fitted alloys? If so what style are they? It looks like 205/55/16 was a size of tyre fitted to the mk2 Galaxy as that size is listed on the tyre pressure decal fitted to the vehicle, however, I don't know if these would have been fitted to the same wheel rims as the wider 215 tyres. There's not much in it (10mm tread width) and the rim diameter is the same so it's close but because it could potentially affect e.g your insurance if you had an accident I'd be reluctant to say yes it's fine because I don't know for sure!

It needs the input of other members with 205 width tyres fitted and the style of rims they have been fitted to to clear this up.

Hi insanitybeard

Thank you for your response.

The Galaxy is MK2.  I bought it from a proper car dealer a few years ago so can't say for sure whether the alloys were factory fitted or not and the tyres at that time were 215/55/R15. I have always stuck to these sizes.

I didn't know that it could effect my car insurance in case of an accident.  Thank you for educating me.  I will definitely keep this in my mind when making decision.
Kind regards
Dennis

Hi insanitybeard

Correcting typing error. It is 215/55/R16 and not 215/55/R15.

The standard alloy wheel fitted to the Mk2 Galaxy Zetec (although not the only type of wheel it could have been fitted with) was like this - do you have these style of wheels fitted?

Hi there

" do you have these style of wheels fitted? "

Yes I have.

These are the comparison details for the tyres via size.
They'll fit just fine, though.
