Having had a great deal of problems with my mk2's front suspension mounts which are ok at the moment thanks to fitting genuine ford/vw parts I am just wondering if anyone has thought of modifying the whole lot to take bolt in mounts to that end does anyone have a link to the vw parts lists like the eucatparts one for ford but vw so I can compare vw front mounts because I don't want to keep fixing the crap system fitted at present whoever designed it should be taken outside and shot or made to fix everyone's

I wasn't aware of the VW implementation of the Mk2 front suspension being any different to Fords...........

I too was under the impression the only differences between them was cosmetic?

I think OP is on about using a different models mount system as there is no difference between any of the stable mates. There are a couple of subtle differences between the 1.9, 2.3 and V6 but only in terms of resistance and damping effects.

Personally, I've not had any issues with this setup. If you use genuine stuff it lasts a long time but unfortunately as you've found out, the cheap stuff isn't made to quite the sme standard!

The only failing of the design I.M.O is to not fit a rubber cap as standard over the top plate to prevent water from accumulating in the top plate recess which causes the damper rod threads to corrode solid. And the access isn't fantastic up top but that wouldn't really be a problem if there was no thread corrosion to worry about.

As for trying to swap the setup for one of the designs with the studded top mounts as the O.P has suggested, without resorting to major cutting and welding of the chassis to install a new turret, I can't see how it could be accomplished due to the shape and design of the turret installed.

Completely agree, I can't see anything fitting and it's unlikely to be better if it does!

The cups have the same diameter as the rubber covers that fit the back of a Mk6 Golf headlight fyi ;)

cheers  I'll bear it in mind for when I inevitably have to remove the struts at some point!

The link I provided would have taken you to the whole range if you had clicked on the 7zap logo at the top of the page. If you want to look at the whole range then look here.

Are you sure that suspension mounts are good only when OEM? My VW dealer took 65Ã,£ ??? for thermostat and i do not want to know how much they want for that.
Buying this car after knowing all common problems feels bit sadistic, but then again, my main income is from growing potatoes in arctic.

Kristaps well all I can say is that ive tried others and genuine ones are best as for prices well my local ford guy charged as follows
mount Ã,£15.89
bearing Ã,£5.70
strut Ã,£24.50
drop link Ã,£9.75
anti roll bar bushes Ã,£3.40 a pair
and my mistake insanitybeard got it now
