Steering Issue

My steering seems to move about too much while driving. It seems to move about with the condition of the road. Also it seems to be aiming it's self towards the off side. If I let go of the wheel it would steer off to the right.
Would having the wheel alignment done solve this or is it a steering rack issue?

Thanks in advance

Vagueness in the steering is normally worn ball joints on the trackrods, there are inners and outers although its normally the outers that fail. Replace them and then get it tracked, if they are worn then tracking alone will do nothing :)

if its pulling over that badly;
1. check tyre pressures, low on one side will cause pulling to one side

2. if wheel alignment is out badly the tyres may have coned; they wear so they pull the car to one side, even after wheel alignment is done the car will still pull over due to shape of tyres===only cure is new tyres at same time as alignment is done.

It was wearing hard on both insides. Had both track rod ends replaced at the MOT. Stuck some part worn tyre on that were mine from new and now it appears it's wearing on the outside. Tyre pressures are fine also under braking there is no effect on the steering.

wearing on the inside edges means its toeing in too much;
needs tracking doing and another pair of tyres i'm afraid...
