I've got a water leak, and am thinking of changing the water pump with one from Eurocarparts, my engine has done 180,000 miles, and I think it's time I changed the pump. BUT, I need to take the axillary belt off...now I know I have to find the tensioner pulley, which I think I have (below the alternator).

I can remove the offside headlamp, the power steering reservoir, and the coolant bottle to make more room, and the engine mount. Do I need to remove the wheel arch skirt too for better access?

Any tips on how I move the tensioner pulley to slacken the belt - I'm sure it must be quite straight forward...

Does your auxiliary belt setup look like this (i.e, a single belt)? If so I'm assuming the alternator is sat next to the idler numbered 19A216 and the tensioner as you say sits below it (numbered 6A228). Bearing in mind I've not worked on the Mk3 Galaxy before, if there's no separate flat or cutout in the tensioner to engage any other tool to take the tension off of the belt for removal, with some tensioners you just engage a spanner on the centre bolt head of the pulley wheel itself and just 'rotate' the bolt clockwise (as you would if you were tightening it up)- the bolt doesn't really rotate as it's probably threadlocked solid, instead, the tensioner arm will be forced back to overcome the spring tension.

As for the water pump, I think it'll be the pulley shown with 3 bolt holes in it in the same diagram, if there isn't enough access to change it without jacking the engine then depending on clearance your best bet may be to use a trolley jack on the edge of the (aluminium?) sump pan, remove the engine mount and then raise the engine in order to open up a bit of space to work in.

Hi insanitybeard, do you also have a parts catalogue number for my off side rear door, I'm looking for a replacement glass/plastic strip that runs vertically up the edge of the door, just above the door handle. Kind soul thumped my car last night, and smashed it...

Looks like it'll be the one labelled 25458B on this diagram, as ever though, I'd be reluctant to 100% trust the part numbers quoted on these diagrams. Of the part numbers listed for 25458B it looks like there are 4 of them that are applicable to the Galaxy (left and right I'm assuming, but also in a couple of different finishes- 'black' and 'bright' listed, but the notes unfortunately don't tell you whether they're left or right fitment), the others all say S-Max in the notes.
